Godzilla vs. Kong, also known as "Apex" is a 2021 American science fiction monster movie made by Legendary Pictures. It is the fourth film in the MonsterVerse, following Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is a sequel to both King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island.

There will be a sequel to this film.

Meanwhile, Bernie Hayes, an employee of the Apex Cybernetics business and presenter of the Titan Truth Podcast, exfiltrates material indicating evil activity at an Apex facility in Pensacola, but as he finishes downloading the data, Godzilla appears and strikes unexpectedly. Bernie finds a bizarre piece of equipment like a huge robotic eye amid the facility's debris during Godzilla's assault.

Following the assault, the public has turned against Godzilla, who is no longer seen as humanity's savior. Madison Russell, now an adult and a regular listener to Bernie's podcast, is concerned when she hears about Godzilla's latest assault on her school. She attempts unsuccessfully after school to reason with her widowed father Mark (who is serving as Monarch's director) about a potential lead on the source of Godzilla's rampage, but he ignores all she says, saying merely that beasts, like humans, may evolve. Madison later enlists the aid of her closest friend Josh Valentine to track down the person responsible for Godzilla's rampage and uncover Apex's mysteries.

A tremendous energy source is sought after by Apex's creator and CEO Walter Simmons who has recruited Hollow Earth theorist and former Monarch scientist Nathan Lind to assist lead them to the Hollow Earth, a place under our planet's surface where the Titans live in secret. Nathan is apprehensive at first since his brother attempted to explore the Hollow Earth, but an anti-gravity field within the tunnel killed him. After Walter discloses that Apex has built and produced Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicles, specialized vehicles that can survive the strain of the gravity field, he finally accepts.

The Titan comes and assaults the troops before capsizing the barge and almost drowning Kong and the others onboard. In the end, Nathan frees Kong by releasing his shackles, enabling him to combat Godzilla beneath long enough to swim up to the surface and overturn the barge, sparing the passengers from drowning. Then Godzilla jumps onboard a neighboring aircraft ship to battle Kong. Before Kong can drive Godzilla back into the water, fighter aircraft distract Godzilla sufficiently. To avoid the atomic bomb, Kong jumps off the carrier, but Godzilla wraps his tail around him and pulls him into the water, aiming to drown the Titan.

Fortunately, as Godzilla is being shocked by deep charges, Kong is able to surface for air, thereby ending the conflict.

Meanwhile, Madison and Josh come into Bernie, who recognizes Madison as Mark's daughter and joins their inquiry since they suspect Apex is to blame for Godzilla's behavior shift. They slip inside the devastated Apex headquarters together, only to discover that the "eye" Bernie mentioned earlier has vanished. As they find a hidden facility deep down, the gang is mistakenly trapped and carried via an underground conduit to Hong Kong in an antigravity transport vehicle transporting Skullcrawler eggs.

They come face to face with Apex's ultimate weapon, "Mechagodzilla" a mechanical Godzilla controlled by Ren Serizawa, the late Dr. Ishiro Serizawa's son. Once the mecha is powered up, Walter sends in a massive adult Skullcrawler known as "Number 10" to put Mechagodzilla's Titan-fighting powers to the test. Mechagodzilla grips and restrains the Skullcrawler as it approaches Madison, Josh, and Bernie, before cleaving it in half with a massive red energy beam. The mecha quickly shuts down due to the power supply's limitations.

In the next scene, it is revealed that Walter aims to harness the energy of the Hollow Earth in order to overcome Mechagodzilla's constraints. Madison then understands that Mechagodzilla is the cause for Godzilla's assault in the first place: Apex is attempting to replace him and all of the Titans in order for humans to become the Earth's apex species, which is why Godzilla attacked. When Madison and the others are trying to find an exit, they come across a room where Ren is sitting inside the severed head of Ghidorah, which has been transformed into a biological supercomputer and cockpit for Ren to control Mechagodzilla through radio waves after Apex acquired it from Alan Jonah five years ago during Godzilla's battle with Ghidorah.

Kong and Nathan's crew discover a similar biosphere within the Hollow Earth. They are assaulted by two Warbats, one of which destroys one of the HEAVs. Kong saves the party by killing the first Warbat and swinging its carcass onto the second, knocking it out. The Warbat is suffocated by Nathan's team's HEAV rockets, allowing Kong to escape and pound the monster to death before munching on its innards.

Hearing Godzilla's scream as he gives him with another challenge, Kong accepts and begins to make his way to Hong Kong with his axe in hand through the hole caused by Godzilla's atomic breath, as Ilene, Nathan, and Jia follow him in their HEAV. When Kong confronts Godzilla in Hong Kong, he battles him again, this time getting the upper hand and shoving his axe down Godzilla's throat to prevent him from launching his atomic breath. Kong realizes that his axe is capable of not only blocking Godzilla's atomic breath, but also absorbing it, and uses his weapon to harm the Titan in the thigh, however Godzilla immediately removes and discards the axe. After evading and dodging Godzilla's assaults with the help of Hong Kong's structures and greater agility, Kong recovers his axe and brings it down on Godzilla, causing an explosion that pushes both Titans back, convincing Nathan that Kong has won the second round.

Godzilla and Kong both recuperate and return to their feet, with Godzilla seeking for Kong, who hides from the Titan by perching atop a tower. Kong distracts Godzilla by throwing a construction crane into a building, allowing him to ambush him from above and place the Titan in a chokehold, intending to strangle him, but Godzilla breaks free and unleashes his full fury against Kong, eventually dislocating his left arm, slashing Kong with his claws, and even stomping on his chest twice, despite Kong trying to force Godzilla off of him by punching his wounded thigh. Even though Kong has been conquered and imprisoned by Godzilla, the latter screams defiantly at the latter in defiance.

Walter tells Ren to dispatch Mechagodzilla to slay Godzilla back at Apex headquarters. The mecha is activated, despite Ren's warnings not to use the new Hollow Earth energy source without testing. The security guards also apprehend Bernie, Madison, and Josh and bring them to Walter. While Walter denies inciting Godzilla's war and triggering the whole mess, Madison accuses him of accepting responsibility for giving humans a chance to confront Godzilla and the Titans.

Mechagodzilla suddenly goes crazy under the influence of both the energy source and Ghidorah's brain networks, unbeknownst to Walter as he is monologuing about his invention with his back turned, ending in the robot murdering Walter with a sweep of its hand and Ren being electrocuted to death. In this episode, Mechagodzilla, who has been possessed by Ghidorah's mind, escapes from the Apex facility under Victoria Peak Mountain and rampages over the city before coming face to face with Godzilla. Once it comes into touch with Godzilla, Mechagodzilla launches a volley of missiles at the monster's biological counterpart before the two engage in a pitched combat.

The robot Mechagodzilla is about to fire a red energy beam down Godzilla's neck when Kong dives on top of the robot and deflect the beam into the air, thereby saving Godzilla's life. Following the realization that King Kong saved his life and realizing that he is not an adversary, Godzilla joins forces with King Kong to battle against the mechanized monster Mechagodzilla.

Monarch has constructed an observation station in the Hollow Earth at some point in the future. Ilene, Nathan, and Jia are out on a morning stroll with Kong when they happen to see him pass by. After signing "home" to Jia, Kong leaps to the edge of a cliff, pounding his chest and roaring, proclaiming himself as the king of the Hollow Earth and joyfully accepting it as his new home and realm.
